Bio: Çiler HATIPOĞLU is a Professor at the Department of Foreign Language Education, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey where she teachers various Linguistics and Foreign Language Education (FLE) courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Her main research areas are metadiscourse, pragmatics, politeness, corpus linguistics and foreign language teaching and assessment. Dr Hatipoglu has led national and international projects and published more than 70 articles on these topics in various national and international journals and books (e.g., Language Testing, Journal of Pragmatics, System, South African Journal of Education, EJAL, ExELL, NALANS, Dilbilim Araştırmaları, John Benjamins, Lexington, Peter Lang). She is the creator of the METU Turkish English Exam Corpus (METU TEEC) and a member of the team that developed the first Spoken Turkish Corpus (METU STC).
